The star field is less visible near Earth due to the light pollution and proximity to the sun, then brightens as the voyage thru the solar system progresses
As the viewer goes farther along the journey toward the limits of the solAr system, the score intensifies and the star field dims, becoming less dense to illustrate the emptiness of space, finally as they reach the Kuiper belt, the title card comes toward the viewer as the music resolves
PROCESS BREAKDOWN
The first set of frames was designed in Photoshop using images sourced from the NASA website. I color graded the images and set type to capture the emptiness and beauty of space and best placement for the credits.
hand painted Neptune
2D Asteroids for placement
Original score composed in Logic Pro with Serum 2, various KontakT libraries, Nexus 2 Hollywood Library, custom recorded gong, and individual samples.
The music begins sparsely creating the moody atmosphere of the depleted Earth. Anticipation buildings as the arpeggiated synth plays, the repeating melody becoming more discordant and detuned throughout the composition.
symphonic layers build & progress, rising in energy and harmonic complexity to the climax until finally resolving in simplicity, the melody of the synth delaying out and wasHING into reverb, sonically contextualizing the emptiness of deep space.
